2002 - Bird Rock Coffee Roasters opened for business as a strictly grass-roots company. Coffee was roasted in a sublet restaurant kitchen using small one-pound capacity air roasters. All Bird Rock Coffee Roasters coffee was sold at farmer’s markets and through home-delivery service.
2006 - The retail shop on La Jolla Boulevard in Bird Rock was opened in the summer of 2006 directly across the street from a Starbucks.
2008 - During the summer of 2008, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters expanded their retail location to increase seating, add a newsstand, free wireless connection and a children’s play area. Offers free coffee ‘cupping’ experiences in the new cupping room.
2010 – We earn a 90 point review for our North Bird Espresso - Winter.
2010 – We earn a 94 point review for our Blue Batak Peaberry.
2010 – We earn a 93 point review for our Ethiopia Yirgacheffe - Harfusa Co-op.
2010 – We earn a 92 point review for our Yemen Haraaz Supreme.
2010 – We earn a 90 point review for our microlot from Ecuador: Jose Mayo.
2009 – We earn a 92 point review for our 2009 Ethiopia Amaro Gayo
